Buffalo Toronto Public Media · Community Fundraising

Raise a glass. Raise your voice. Raise the funds that keep public media free.

Host a night out, rally your people, and turn one evening into a year of trusted news, classical music, and children’s programming across Western New York and Southern Ontario.

Neighbors, bartenders, and choirs on both sides of the border are already fundraising.

Join supporters keeping public media free.

Why it matters

Public media belongs to the people who pay for it

Buffalo Toronto Public Media runs WNED PBS, WBFO NPR, and Classical WNED — free over the air, on both sides of the Niagara. No subscription, no paywall, no exceptions.

That only works because neighbors pay for it. When you fundraise, you are not just writing one check — you are opening a door to everyone who trusts you, and asking them to keep the signal on.

Signature events

Two ways to turn a good time into good broadcasting

Pick an event and we hand you a page, a thermometer, and a link. Or skip both and create your own — a birthday, a marathon, a memorial, anything.

Bartending for a Cause

  • Year-round
  • Partner venues
  • Solo or team

Take a guest shift behind the bar at a partner restaurant. Tips, pledges, and a cut of the night’s sales go straight to BTPM — and your page counts every dollar as it lands.

Create your bartender page — solo or bring a team

Carol Crawl

  • December
  • Buffalo & Toronto
  • Teams of 4–12

Assemble a caroling crew, crawl a route of neighborhood pubs, and sing for pledges. Teams climb the leaderboard together, and every carol funds classical music and kids’ programming.

Start your crew’s team page — add singers as you go

Share

We email you your link the moment you finish. Text it, post it, or chalk it on the bar’s specials board.

3

Track

Watch your thermometer climb and see exactly who gave, from your own donor portal. Invite teammates any time.

Event standings

Who’s ahead, event by event

Leaderboards and thermometers can be scoped to a single event, so Bartending for a Cause and the Carol Crawl each get their own race.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add other people to my fundraiser?

Yes. Once your page is live you’ll get an email with an invite link — anyone who uses it joins as a teammate. That’s how most Carol Crawl crews get built.

Are donations to my fundraiser tax deductible?

Yes. Buffalo Toronto Public Media is a registered charity, and every supporter gets a receipt automatically — you never have to chase one down.

Do I need a bar to sign up for Bartending for a Cause?

No. Create your page first, then our events team helps match you with a partner venue and a date. Plenty of people fundraise before their shift is even booked.

I hit my goal — can I raise it?

Absolutely. Adjust your goal any time in the donor portal. And even at 100%, your page keeps accepting gifts.

Can I see how my fundraiser is doing?

Log in to the donor portal for live stats — who gave, where they’re giving from, and how close you are to your goal.

Can supporters give in Canadian dollars?

Yes. Supporters see their own currency and local payment methods automatically, which matters a great deal when your audience spans two countries.

Give directly

Not ready to fundraise? Give instead.

Your gift keeps WNED PBS, WBFO NPR, and Classical WNED free over the air for everyone, on both sides of the border.

  • Tax deductible. Receipts are sent automatically — you never have to ask for one.
  • Give in your own currency. Supporters in Ontario see CAD and local payment methods.
  • Monthly or one-time. Change or cancel a recurring gift yourself, any time.
  • Pick a thank-you gift. The same premiums you offer on air — or decline one so the full gift goes to programming.
